YONECO staff have been urged to take proactive steps to prevent Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), amid projections that the diseases could become the leading cause of death globally by 2030.
The call was made by Senior Medical Officer at Inspire Health Clinic, Dr James Banda, during an NCD awareness campaign held at YONECO Headquarters in Zomba.
Dr Banda highlighted hypertension and diabetes as among the major NCDs, noting that unhealthy eating habits, excessive alcohol consumption and stress are contributing to their increasing prevalence.
He encouraged staff to take greater responsibility for their health by adopting healthier lifestyles, including eating balanced diets, exercising regularly, reducing salt and sugar intake, limiting alcohol consumption and undergoing regular medical check-ups.
